Abstract

The article reveals the ideological and compositional-rhythmic role of the genre of prayer in the cycles «Poems in prose» by I. S. Turgenev and «Crumbs» by A. I. Solzhenitsyn. The implicit religiosity of the agnostic Turgenev puts language and art in the place of God. The Turgenev cycle ends with a poem-prayer «Russian language». Both parts of Solzhenitsyn’s cycle also end with prayers.
Both authors place the prayers in the strong positions of the cycle, emphasizing their ideological and compositional importance.
