the article examines the scientific and pedagogical heritage of Bishop Isidore (Bogoyavlensky), whose unique pedagogical experience and theological training made it possible for him to be appointed as the first rector of the revived Leningrad theological schools when he was Archpriest John. The forced emigration of the priest to Estonia turned into an opportunity to gain unique teaching experience in various spiritual and secular educational institutions, which later proved to be in demand when, as a result of unprecedented persecution of the Church, newly opened theological schools were in dire need of pedagogically trained teachers. The choice fell on Archpriest John, who by that time had become the author of numerous theological works, as well as a manual on the Law of God, designed for 6 years of studying the subject. The analysis of the manual prot. John shows that it is an example of a coherent methodological system that meets the highest requirements of theological accuracy, and does not lose its relevance today as an excellent material for studying the history of Russian Orthodox pedagogy, as well as a basis for teaching various subjects of spiritual orientation and conducting parish work with children and youth. The article also provides a brief analysis of the individual circumstances of Bishop Isidore's ministry in Estonia in the context of various events in the state-church relations of those years.
