Abstract

The reader is offered a translation of the work of the Byzantine historian Joseph Genesius “Βασιλεῖαι” with comments. The work of Genesius covers a number of political, social and cultural aspects of the life of the Byzantine Empire in the 9th century. Genesius focuses on the reign of emperors, their psychological portraits and the influence of external and internal factors on the development of the empire. Particular attention is paid to the description of the internal and external policies of the empire, social changes and personalities who played a key role in the events of the specified period. This translation may be useful to historians, philologists and anyone interested in Byzantine history.
