Abstract

The history of the Church Slavonic language is extremely dynamic. In the end, its active liturgical use and development as a literary language leads, for a number of political-historical, linguistic, and social reasons, to the formation of the Russian literary language. Church Slavonic is still alive today. But in order to preserve it as liturgical, at the next historical stage it is necessary to carry out a multifaceted theological and philological commentary of liturgical texts, including for its potential structural and semantic adaptation. Thus, this article proposes to analyze a selected passage of the first letter of the holy Apostle John the Theologian in Church Slavonic, including its exegetical and philological analysis.
